Free Diabetes Education Classes

Pinal County Public Health Services District hosts
FREE Diabetes Education Classes, led by a Registered Dietitian. Diabetes classes offer "how-to" information and skill building on monitoring, healthy eating, being active, problem solving, medications and reducing risks.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program Classes

Pinal County Public Health Services District is partnering with Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens to offer Stanford Healthy Living workshops at community locations countywide.

All workshops are offered free to community members and include a series of six classes, which meet once a week for about 2 to 2.5 hours.

Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, 6) decision making, and 7) how to evaluate new treatments.

Healthy Living with Diabetes Workshop (6 weeks)

The Diabetes Workshop is beneficial for Prediabetics, Diabetics, and newly diagnosed Diabetics.

The Diabetes Self-Management Workshop will cover healthy eating, menu planning, preventing hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, activities to manage blood glucose and improve strength, flexibility and endurance and techniques to deal with stress, depression, fatigue, and preventing and delaying complications.
Virtual workshop meets over Zoom for 2 hours, once a week for 6 weeks.

Participants will receive a free Healthy Living with Chronic Conditions book.

 A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed
to manage and help decrease falls and increase activity levels for individuals age 60 years or older.

 Finding Meaning and Hope (10 weeks)

A discussion series for those struggling with caring for someone with dementia

Join a group of fellow caregivers as we discuss the complexities of ongoing loss associated with caring for someone with Alzheimer's and other dementias and what to do about it. You will learn skills to help you stay strong, healthy, resilient, and positive so you can navigate the journey with healing and hope. This ten-week discussion series features videos based on the groundbreaking book, Loving Someone Who Has Dementia: How to Find Hope While Coping with Stress and Grief by Pauline Boss, Ph.D., the nation's leading expert on caregiver grief.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers Workshop (6 weeks)

Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes help caregivers take better care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Whether you provide care for a spouse, partner, parent, friend, or a child with special needs; at home or in a care facility; whether down the block or miles away, yours is an important role. This course is for family caregivers like you!

In this class, caregivers will receive "The Caregiver Helpbook", which follows the curriculum and provides additional tools to address specific caregiver issues.
